Smith's Bible Dictionary

Jar'muth. (high).

1. A town in the low country of Judah. Joshua 16:35. Its king, Piram, was one of the five who conspired to punish Gibeon, for having made alliance with Israel, Joshua 10:3; Joshua 10:5, and who were routed at Beth-horon, and put to death, by Joshua at Makkedah. Joshua 10:33. Its site is probably the modern Yarmuk.

2. A city of Issachar allotted, with its suburbs, to the Gershonite Levites. Joshua 21:29.
