"to scatter" (probably from a root, skarp---, signifying "to cut asunder," akin to skorpios, "a scorpion"), is used in Matthew 12:30; Luke 11:23; John 10:12; 16:32; in the RV of 2 Corinthians 9:9 , "scattered abroad" (AV, "he hath dispersed abroad"), of one who liberally dispenses benefits. dia, "through," and No. 2, signifies "to scatter abroad," in Matthew 26:31; Mark 14:27 , metaphorically of sheep; in Luke 1:51 , of the proud; in John 11:52 , of the "scattering" of the children of God; in Acts 5:37 , of the followers of Judas of Galilee (AV, "were dispersed"); cp.
