Fausset's Bible Dictionary

A town in the shephelah or "rolling hills" of Judah (Joshua 15:40). From the same root as Bethlehem, "the house of bread." Now El Hamam, six miles S.E. of Ajlan or Eglon, in a wheat-producing region.
