Holman Bible Dictionary
(ay' drih el) Personal name meaning, “God is my help.” Saul's daughter Merab was promised as David's wife but then given to Adriel from Meholah, on the northern River Jordan (1 Samuel 18:19 ). His five sons David gave to the Gibeonites, who hanged them in revenge for unexplained actions Saul had taken against Gibeon (2 Samuel 21:1-9 ).
