(uh fahr' ssach itess) or APHARSATHCHITES KJV transliteration of Aramaic terms in Ezra 4:9; Ezra 5:6; Ezra 6:6 . Modern translations translate the term to indicate government officials: governors (RSV); officials (NIV; NAS). The term in Ezra 4:9 may represent officials representing the Persian king in the provinces of his kingdom. The term in Ezra 5:6 and Ezra 6:6 may refer to government investigators or inspectors.
