Holman Bible Dictionary
(bahr' ssuh buhss) (KJV) or BARSABBAS Personal name meaning, “son of the Sabbath.” 1. Name given Joseph Justus, candidate not elected when church chose replacement for Judas, the traitor (Acts 1:23 ). 2 . Last name of Judas, who Jerusalem church chose to go with Paul and Silas to Antioch after the Jerusalem council (Acts 15:22 ). See Apostle; Judas; Joseph; Justus .
