(bih ri' ah) Personal name meaning, “Yahweh created.” 1. Son of Asher and grandson of Jacob (Genesis 46:17 ). He thus became original ancestor of clan of Beriites (Numbers 26:44 ). 2 . Son of Ephraim born after his sons Ezer and Elead died in battle against Gath. Beraiah's name is explained here not as a compound of (Yahweh created ) but as a compound of (with evil ). His daughters built the two cities named Beth-horon (1 Chronicles 7:20-25 ). 3 . A clan leader of the tribe of Benjamin in the area of Ajalon. He helped drive out the inhabitants of Gath (1 Chronicles 8:13 ). 4 . A Levite under King David (1 Chronicles 23:10 ).
