Casement

Holman Bible Dictionary

A window with lattice work. The wisdom teacher looked through a latticed window to observe a foreign woman dealing with a naive youth (Proverbs 7:6 ). Sisera's mother looked through a similar window as she impatiently waited for her son to return from the battle which he had lost to Deborah and Barak and after which he was killed by Jael (Judges 5:28 ). Archaeologists have found such lattice windows in royal palaces. The queen or a goddess looking out the royal window seems to have been a popular motif in the Ancient Near East.
