Chesil
Holman Bible Dictionary
(chee' ssihl) Place name meaning, “foolish.” A city of the tribe of Judah (Joshua 15:30 ). A similar list giving the boundary of Simeon in Joshua 19:4 spells the name Bethul, a reading supported for Joshua 15:30 by the Septuagint, the earliest Greek translation. 1 Chronicles 4:30 also reads Bethuel. Chesil is thus identical with Bethuel, which can be spelled Bethuel. See Bethuel .
