Consumption
Holman Bible Dictionary
A wasting or emaciating disease that would be inflicted upon those who disobeyed the law (Leviticus 26:16; Deuteronomy 28:22 ). The disease has been identified as pulmonary tuberculosis (phthisis) or as the side effects of wasting and emaciation from prolonged bouts of malarial fever. Some have even suggested cancer. The KJV uses consumption in Isaiah 10:22; Isaiah 28:22 where modern versions translate “destruction.”
