Holman Bible Dictionary

A nearly transparent quartz which may be colorless or slightly tinged. “Crystal” is the modern translation of several Hebrew and Greek words used to describe something valuable (Job 28:18 ), a clear sky (Ezekiel 1:22 ), a calm sea or river (Revelation 4:6; Revelation 22:1 ), or the radiance of the new Jerusalem (Revelation 21:11 ). Translators differ in their usage in the various passages.
