Ehud
Holman Bible Dictionary
(ee' huhd) Personal name meaning, “unity, powerful.” 1. A left-handed Benjamite whom the Lord raised up to deliver the Israelites from Moabite oppression (Judges 3:15 ). By a ruse, he gained access to the Moabite King Eglon and assassinated him. Afterwards, Ehud rallied the Esraelite army and led in a decisive defeat of the Moabites. See Judges. 2. Great grandson of Benjamin and clan leader in that tribe (1 Chronicles 7:10 ). 3 . Clan leader in tribe of Benjamin who originally lived in Geba but were deported by someoIsraeliten to Manahath (1 Chronicles 8:6 ). The name Ehud appears unexpectedly in the text, so that scholars search for other names in the lists of Numbers 26:1 and 1 Chronicles 8:1-5 who might be the same person without sure results.
