Eliphaz
Holman Bible Dictionary
(ehl' ih faz) Personal name meaning, “my god is gold.” 1. A son of Esau by his wife Adah the daughter of Elon the Hittite (Genesis 36:4 ). Eliphaz became the ancestor of the chieftains of several Edomite clans (Genesis 36:15-16 ). 2. One of three men who visited Job and engaged the sufferer in dialogue (Job 2:11 ). He is identified as a Temanite, meaning he was from Teman in Edom. His recorded speeches to Job are marked by a simplistic theological traditionalism and a tone of moral superiority. He may have been a descendant of Eliphaz the son of Esau. See Job.
