Holman Bible Dictionary
(ih lihf' eh leht) Personal name meaning, “God is deliverance.” 1. David's son born in Jerusalem (2 Samuel 5:16 ). He is apparently listed twice in both 1Chronicles 3:6,1 Chronicles 3:8 and 1Chronicles 14:5, 1 Chronicles 14:7 , with an abbreviated Hebrew spelling in 1 Chronicles 14:5 . See 1 Chronicles 8:39 ). 3 . A clan leader who accompanied Ezra on his return from Exile in Babylon (Ezra 8:13 ). 4 . A man who divorced his foreign wife under Ezra's leadership to avoid false worship among God's people (Ezra 10:33 ). 5 . A famous warrior under David (2 Samuel 23:34 ).
