Elkanah
Holman Bible Dictionary
(ehl kay' nuh) Personal name meaning, “God created.” 1. One of the sons of Korah, the priest (Exodus 6:24 ). 2. The son of Jeroham. He became the father of Samuel (1 Samuel 1:1 ). 3 . A person named in a list of Levites (1 Chronicles 6:23-26 ). 4 . The father of Asa who is mentioned in a list of Levites (1 Chronicles 9:16 ). 5 . A Benjaminite warrior who deserted Saul and joined David (1 Chronicles 12:6 ).
6. One of two gatekeepers for the ark of the covenant (1 Chronicles 15:23 ).
7. An official in the service of King Ahaz of Judah who was assassinated by Zichri the Ephraimite (2 Chronicles 28:7 ). See Samuel .
