Emmaus

Holman Bible Dictionary

(ehm may' uhss) Place name meaning, “hot baths.” A village that was the destination of two of Jesus' disciples on the day of His resurrection (Luke 24:13 ). As they traveled, they were joined by a person whom they later realized was the risen Christ. Emmaus was about 60 furlongs (approximately seven miles) from Jerusalem. That statement is the only clue to its location. As many as four sites have been proposed as the location of Emmaus, but certainty is not possible. See Resurrection .
