Holman Bible Dictionary

(guhr' sshahn) Personal name meaning, “expelled” or “bell.” Eldest son of Levi (Genesis 46:11 ). He was the progenitor of the Gershonites, who had specifically assigned responsibilities regarding the transporting of the tabernacle during the years of Israel's nomadic existence in the wilderness.
