Great
Holman Bible Dictionary
A title claimed by the Samaritan magician Simon (Acts 8:9-10 ). The title represents a claim to divine honors though the precise meaning of the title is unclear. Justin Martyr held that the Samaritans revered Simon as the highest god of the Canaanite pantheon. Others have argued that Simon claimed to be a lesser god who represented the power of the high god, such as Baal Zebul or Athena.
