Horned Owl
Holman Bible Dictionary
Any species of owl having conspicuous tufts of feathers on the head. The NIV reckons the horned owl an unclean bird (Leviticus 11:16; Deuteronomy 14:15 ). The precise identity of the bird is unclear. Other possibilities include: desert owl (REB); owl (KJV); and ostrich (NAS, NRSV). See Birds in the Bible.
