Howling Creatures
Holman Bible Dictionary
The identity of the “howling creature” (NRSV) of Isaiah 13:21 is disputed. Suggestions include: the jackal (NIV); owl (NAS, KJV, TEV), porcupine (REB), and the laughing hyena. The precise identity of the creature is not so important as the complete desolation that its presence indicates.
