Insurrection
Holman Bible Dictionary
Rebellion against an established government. By the time of Artaxerxes (464-423 B.C.), Jerusalem had a well-established reputation for insurrection (Ezra 4:19 ). Barabbas was charged with insurrection (Mark 15:7; Luke 23:19 ,Luke 23:19,23:25 ). The tribune in charge of Temple security confused Paul with an Egyptian insurrectionist (Acts 21:38 ). The insurrection of Acts 18:12 (KJV) is better rendered “united attack” (NRSV).
