Holman Bible Dictionary

(jih hahz' uh dak) Personal name meaning, “Yahweh deals righteously.” 1. High priest at the time Nebuchadnezzar carried Judah into Babylonian Exile about 587 B.C. (1 Chronicles 6:14-15 ). He was the father of Joshua, the high priest who returned from Exile with Zerubbabel about 537 B.C. (Haggai 1:1; Zechariah 6:11 ). An abbreviated Hebrew form Jozadak also appears, and English translations are inconsistent in spelling the name. See Jozadak; Josedech .
