Holman Bible Dictionary
(jee' ruh) Personal name meaning, “moon” or “month.” A descendant of Shem, son of Noah, in the Table of Nations (Genesis 10:26 ). The moon was the chief god in South Arabia. Since the surrounding names in the list represent Arabian tribes, this probably indicates the relationshipof Semitic tribes in Arabia to the Hebrews.
