Malachite
Holman Bible Dictionary
(muhl' a chite) A green basic carbonate of copper used as an ore and for ornamental objects; according to the NEB and REB, a component of the mosaic pavement decorating the palace of the Persian king Ahasuerus at Susa (Esther 1:6 ). The Hebrew root means “glistening.” Suggested meanings include: porphyry (NAS, NIV, NRSV); red marble (KJV), and white marble (TEV), in addition to malachite.
