Marah
Holman Bible Dictionary
(mah' rah) Place name meaning “bitter.” Place in the Wilderness of Shur, so named because of the bitter water found there by the wandering Israelites (Exodus 15:23 ). The site is typical of pools in the Sinai pennisula, having undrinkable water. The people complained against Moses because of their discomfort. God answered the leader's prayer by telling him to cast a tree into the water which became sweet and drinkable. Marah cannot be located definitely.
