Pilot
Holman Bible Dictionary
A helmsman. Ancient pilots steered by positioning a side rudder which was an oversized oar pivoted in a slanting position near the vessel's stern (James 3:4; KJV, governor). Most translations used pilot in Ezekiel 27:8 ,Ezekiel 27:8,27:27-29 in parallel to terms translated mariners, rowers, or sailors. The NIV rendered the underlying Hebrew as a seamen. See Ships.
