Poll
Holman Bible Dictionary
1. KJV term for “to cut off” or “to trim” hair (2 Samuel 14:26; Ezekiel 44:20; Micah 1:16 ). Priests were permitted to poll their hair but not to shave their heads. Polling one's hair could be understood as a sign of mourning. 2. KJV term for “the head,” especially that part on which hair grows. To count every male “by their polls” (Numbers 1:2; compare 1Chronicles 23:3,1 Chronicles 23:24 ) is to count “heads.”
