Holman Bible Dictionary
KJV term for high public esteem or regard applied to: Gamaliel (Acts 5:34 ); Jerusalem apostles (Galatians 2:2 ); Epaphroditus (Philippians 2:29 ). The KJV translation, “But made himself of no reputation” (Philippians 2:7 ) is an interpretation of heauton ekenosen meaning, he “emptied himself” (NAS, NRSV).
