Runners performed two basic functions, as messengers (2Chronicles 30:6,2 Chronicles 30:10; Esther 3:13; Jeremiah 51:31 ) and royal body guards (1 Samuel 8:11; 1 Samuel 22:17; 2 Samuel 15:1; 1 Kings 1:5; 2 Kings 10:25; 2 Kings 11:4 ).
