Holman Bible Dictionary
(sshih mi' daw) Personal name meaning, “The Name has known” or “The Name troubles Himself for.” Clan head among the Gileadites in tribe of Manasseh (Numbers 26:32; compare Joshua 17:2; 1 Chronicles 7:19 ). The Samaritan Ostraca lists Shemida as a territorial name in territory of Manasseh.
