Sport
Holman Bible Dictionary
To laugh at, to mock, to play with, and in one place to live in luxury. The versions do not agree on how to translate this word. For instance, Isaiah 57:4 is translated, “Against whom do ye sport yourselves?” (“jest” NAS; “mocking” NIV, NRSV). Samson is said to have made sport for the Philistines ( Judges 16:25 ). Modern translations use “perform” and “entertain.” 2 Peter 2:13 speaks of the unrighteous as “sporting themselves with their own deceivings while they feast with you.” Modern translations translate “reveling.”
