Actor Ecclesire

1910 New Catholic Dictionary

(Latin: agent of the Church)

Medieval designation for an official deputed to defend the rights and revenues of a church or monastery, often confounded with Advocatus ecclesire. It has been practically superseded, in as far as the office still exists, by the terms "patron" and "advowee."
