1910 New Catholic Dictionary
A dignitary of the pontifical household whose duty it is to preach to the assembled papal court four times during Advent, and weekly during Lent. It was established as a permanent office by Pope Paul IV in 1555, and conferred on the Capuchin Order by Pope Benedict XIV in 1753.
