Centurion
1910 New Catholic Dictionary
An officer in the Roman army in command of a body of men, numbering from 50 to 100; although not a commissioned officer in the modern sense, he corresponds somewhat to the present captain. Centurions are mentioned five times in the New Testament: Matthew 8,27; Acts 10,21, and 27.
