Cupola

1910 New Catholic Dictionary

Hemispherical ceiling or bowl-shaped vault, rising over any part of a building; the term should be confined to the under side of the dome. The material and method of construction may vary. When of solid construction the support is by pendentives or by a drum. Modern cupolas are generally of wrought iron filled in with some tile formation.
