Evangelist
1910 New Catholic Dictionary
One who brings good news, a preacher of the Gospel. In the New Testament the term denotes a function rather than an office (Acts 21; Ephesians 4; 2 Timothy 4). Since the 3century the term is used exclusively of the writers of the Gospels: Saints Matthew, Mark, Luke, John.
