Reigned 236 to 250. Born in Rome, Italy; died there. A farmer, he came into the city to attend the papal election. A dove descended onto his head, this was considered a sign from heaven, and he was elected by acclamation. Little is known of his reign. He is said to have divided Rome into seven districts presided over by seven deacons.
