Facciolati, Jacopo

1910 New Catholic Dictionary

Catholic philologist. Born 1682; died 1769. After editing a revised edition of the Calepinus, a Latin dictionary in seven languages, realized the need of a new Latin lexicon and therefore for 40 years supervised the labors of his talented pupil, Egidio Forcellini (1688-1768), who had aided him when editing the Calepinus. The result of this collaboration, Totius Latinitatis Lexicon, Padua, 1771, gives every Latin word with its Greek and Italian equivalents and is the basis of all the Latin lexicons now in use.
