Fayes, Herve Auguste Etienne Albans

1910 New Catholic Dictionary

Astronomer, born Saint-Benoit-du-Sault, France, 1814; died Paris, France, 1902. In 1843 he discovered the comet bearing his name, and later lectured on astronomy at the Ecole Poly technique (1873-1893). He improved the method of astronomical measurements, invented the zenithal collimator, and suggested and applied photography and electricity to astronomy.
