Gaming

1910 New Catholic Dictionary

Staking large sums of money or valuable articles on games of pure chance, as for instance, dice, roulette. Playing for small stakes, games that depend more or less on skill, is not gambling. The practise is not wrong in itself, but it is commonly the occasion of wrong, of risking money or property that does not belong to one, of staking beyond one's means, of losing what should justly go to one's family, of losing time, of distraction from one's business or other more worthy pursuits.
