1910 New Catholic Dictionary
The influential diocese of Constantinople was founded sometime prior to 405. It was suppressed after the fall of Constantinople to the Muslim Turks in 1453. The Vicariate Apostolic of Constantinople was re-established on April 15, 1742. The name was changed to the Vicariate Apostolic of Istanbul on November 30, 1990. Notable bishops include
