The real writer, Jean. de Bourgogue (died c.1372),whose journeyings were limited to Egypt, adopted the name Mandeville in describing his supposed wanderings through Africa and Asia, as he was plagiarizing most of his work from the writings of the early Dominican and Franciscan missionaries and older authors.
