1910 New Catholic Dictionary

Confessor; bishop of Salisbury; born Normandy France; died 1099. A nephew of William the Conqueror, who made him his chancellor in England and one of the Domesday Book commissioners, in 1078 he was consecrated Bishop of Sarum, a see later translated to Salisbury. He is noted chiefly for the formation of the Sarum Use. His shrine in Salisbury cathedral was destroyed under Henry VIII. Canonized, 1457. Relics at Salisbury. Feast, December 4,.
