Vine's Expository Dictionary of NT Words

(Strong's #1427 — Noun — dodeka — do'-dek-ah )

is used frequently in the Gospels for the twelve Apostles, and in Acts 6:2; 1 Corinthians 15:5; Revelation 21:14; of the tribes of Israel, Matthew 19:28; Luke 22:30; James 1:1; Revelation 21:12 (cp. 7:5-8; 12:1); in various details relating to the heavenly Jersalem, Revelation 21:12-21; 22:2 . The number in general is regarded as suggestive of Divine administration.
