DENYS MARIE PIERRE AUGUSTIN COCHIN (1851-), French politician, was born at Paris. He studied law, was elected to the chamber of deputies in 1893, and gradually became one of the leaders and principal orators of the Conservative party. He opposed the project of the income-tax in 1894, the revision of the Dreyfus case in 1899, and the separation of the church and state in 1905. He is known as an author by his works, L'Evolution de la vie (1895); Le Monde exterieur (1895); Contre les barbares (1899); Ententes et ruptures (1905).
