Asterisk
1911 Encyclopedia Britannica
(from Gr. ao-mpco-icos, a little star), the sign* used in typography. The word is also used in its literal meaning in old writers, and as a description of an ornamental form (star-shaped) in one of the utensils in the Greek Church.
