Cyrillic
1911 Encyclopedia Britannica
the alphabet used by the Orthodox Slays. It is modelled on the Greek Liturgical Uncial of the 9th century, and its invention is traditionally, though in all probability wrongly, ascribed to the Greek missionary Cyril (d. 869). For an account of its origin and development, with a table of its letters, see Slavs.
