a town in the Prussian Rhine province on the Itter, 9 m. S.E. of Dusseldorf by rail. Pop. (1905) 13,946. It possesses an Evangelical and a Roman Catholic church and a monument to the emperor William I. Its manufactures include silks, velvets, carpets, calico-printing, machinery and brickmaking.
