1911 Encyclopedia Britannica

(Gr. voµas, voµades, wandering), a wanderer. The word is particularly used of tribes who shift continually from place to place in search of pasture (Gr. viyecv). The voµ6c3es of ancient Greek writers meant particularly the pastoral tribes of North Africa; hence the Latin name of the Numidians (see Numidia) .
