1911 Encyclopedia Britannica

r Rhodomontade, a term for boastful, extravagant language or any inflated bragging speech. The word refers to the brave but boastful Saracen leader Rodomonte in Ariosto's Orlando Furioso. The name (in the form Rodamante) appears earlier in Boiardo's Orlando Innamorato. It is supposed to represent a compound of rodare, to roll, and monte, mountain.
